Attractions

Maine is not called Vacationland for nothing. It is the best place to vacation in because aside from its good climate, it also boasts of several world-class attractions. Here are some of them:

Acadia National Park

This 47,000-acre park is found on Mount Desert Island. It is a feast for the senses as you’ll see the coastline, the lakes and streams meet with the lush forest. You can spend an entire day just relaxing and enjoying the view; watching the sun while it sets, as the sky turns to a watercolor palette. If you live an active life, you’ll enjoy the hiking trails at the park, while campers can set up their tents in an area in the park designated especially for them.

Palace Playland

Bring your kids to Palace Playland if you want them to experience the fun and thrill offered by an authentic beachfront amusement park. There are rides like a carousel, a Ferris Wheel, and a coaster. If you visit on Thursdays, make sure you stay for the fireworks that revel visitors in the evening.

Monhegan Island

If you want some quiet during the summer season (while enjoying the sun and the beach, of course), set off for Monhegan Island, which is approximately 10 miles off the Maine coast. This is a small island with less than 80 inhabitants. It’s like a paradise in a modern world because it has no paved roads, which means no cars that can cause stress and traffic! Perfect for complete relaxation.

Southworth Planetarium

Want to explore the galaxies far, far away? You need to check out the Southworth Planetarium, which is located inside the University of Southern Maine Portland campus. Aside from exciting and visually appealing astronomy shows, you’ll also find a display of National Geographic Society’s solar system at the Planetarium. Perfect for the whole family.

Maine Historical Society Museum

If you want to learn all that you can about the history of Maine, the Maine Historical Society Museum is the best place to go to. Aside from the displays of artifacts, documents, and art, there are also regular exhibits touching on different topics.

Funtown/Splashtown U.S.A.

This is another place you can bring the kids to. It’s an amusement and water park that features rides like the wooden roller coaster called Home of Excalibur (one of the best in the world). There are also pools, arcades, rides, and games in this fun facility which, incidentally, is one of the cleanest in the country.
